We’re excited to announce the return of one of our favorite traditions—our annual fly-in and campout at Kern Valley Airport (L05)! We’re looking forward to doing it again in 2026 and hope you’ll join us.
Nestled along the Kern River and surrounded by stunning Sierra Nevada scenery, Kern Valley offers a true backcountry feel with the convenience of on-field camping. It’s the perfect opportunity to practice mountain flying skills, enjoy cool evening air under the stars, and spend quality time with fellow club members.
We’ll plan to arrive in the early afternoon, set up camp near our aircraft, and enjoy a relaxed evening together. Bring your tent, tie-downs, warm layers, and your favorite camp chair. Whether you’re an experienced mountain pilot or looking to build confidence flying into higher-elevation airports, this trip offers both great experience and great company!
There’s no need to reserve a campsite on your own, the club will coordinate and take care of the group camping arrangements. Just plan to bring your gear, and we’ll handle the rest!

Kern Valley Airport is a public airport located in the Kern River Valley, 3 miles south of Kernville in Kern County, California, United States. It serves the Lake Isabella area in the Southern Sierra Nevada. The airport is mostly used for general aviation.
